Meta-Analysis of the Variables on Ego- Resilience of Upper Elementary School Students

    Abstract

    This study aims to provide basic data for upper elementary school students' healthy psychosocial growth through the meta-analysis of protective and risk factors related to ego-resilience of elementary school students. To achieve this, meta-analysis was conducted with personality trait and family variables related to ego-resilience of elementary school students divided into protective factors and risk factors, and the correlation among the variables of ego-resilience was verified. A total of 52 articles, including 39 theses and 13 journal papers were finally selected for the meta-analysis. Here are the results of the study. First, the effect size of protective factors of elementary school students' ego- resilience was below large level of it. The effect size of personality trait variables was below large level, and that of family variables was below medium. Second, the effect size of risk factors of elementary school graders' ego-resilience was below medium level. The effect size of personality trait variables and family variables was below medium level. This study has a great significance that preceding researches on the protective factors and risk factors affecting the ego-resilience of elementary students were combined and arranged, through which the baseline research data for integrated model establishment were presented to determine how predictors on ego- resilience of elementary school students affect their ego-resilience. Furthermore, it is meaningful that this study provided the practical data to develop education and group counseling program for improving ego resilience and seek how to achieve the improvement of ego-resilience in a personal counseling.
